Co-hosted by JIPS and the Permanent Mission of Norway to the UN in Geneva on Tuesday, 14 June 2022, this high-level event brought attention to the upcoming UN Secretary-General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement and the key shifts it calls for, highlighting positive changes that are already in motion from the viewpoint of data processes.
Bringing together donors and other actors involved in responding to Forced Displacement, the event linked global priorities to field practice and, through concrete examples, demonstrated the transformative value of data and analysis when generated through collaborative processes and a whole-of-society approach. It showcased JIPS’ work and achievements at the country and global levels, underpinned by its Strategy 2021-2023, and our future plans.
The event hosted around a hundred participants from diverse backgrounds and locations around the world. While the first part of the event provided a snapshot of the promising approaches JIPS already observes in its work, the second part featured a series of lightning talks to dive deeper into three key shifts outlined in the Action Agenda, from the viewpoint of data processes, namely: i) political will and national ownership of data on Forced Displacement; ii) whole-of-society approaches that engage communities as equal partners in the data design, collection, analysis and use; and iii) pathways in data processes that enable collective humanitarian, development and peace results.
The discussion brought forward six main takeaways, which we consolidated into an event summary note. Across the board, the high-level speakers underlined the promising approaches that we can build upon, and emphasised the important role JIPS has been and is playing in this regard.
